Work Smarter Not Harder | A Stripper’s Guide to The Money

WORK SMARTER, NOT HARDER
A packed room doesn't automatically equal a good night. The girls who consistently make money on busy nights aren’t working harder, they just show up with a plan. Here's what that actually looks like, from dancers who've been doing this a while.
Before You Even Walk In
-
Get there early. Sometimes customers get to the club before there are even any dancers there. If you're the only girl there, you’re a lot more likely to get his attention and get his $$$.
-
Know what night you're walking into. Check if there's a special event, theme night, or a celebrity booking. These nights are bound to be packed, and you will probably be charged a premium fee to work. Just remember: a packed house doesn't always mean money. These nights you have more to gain because there's a larger crowd, but you also have more to lose because you're being charged a higher amount of tip in/tip out.
-
Pick your goal number and write it down. Most girls never do this and just take whatever shows up. Decide what tonight looks like for you. $400? $700? $1300? Having a definitive number changes how you move. It’s a mental hustle and having that number in your mind will help to keep you locked in.
-
Wear a comfortable dancer outfit. A busy night is not the time to try to wear brand new shoes that haven’t been broken in yet, and will have you runrunning back to the dressing room to change shoes and you to miss money because you stand to any longer. Wear what you know you can dance in for six-plus hours.
-
Bring a backup outfit. Spills happen. Theft happens. Sweat happens. Having a second or third outfit option means you’re not going home early and wasting $$$ because you were unprepared.
-
Pack snacks and water. Some clubs serve food, some don’t. Some clubs charge their dancers for water too. We are here to make money, not spend it. Always come prepared, just in case.
-
Bring extra cash. Some clubs charge more on busy nights, and they don't accept payment plans. Or if you happen to have a slow night, you don't want to be unable to get gas, food, or whatever you may need. So always have cash and be prepared in case you need it.
Working the Room
-
Try to skip stage if you can. On a packed night, every minute on stage is a minute you're not sitting with someone. If stage is required, use it to make eye contact with whoever's watching you. Go talk to them after you get off of stage.
-
Stop asking 'wanna dance.' Every guy in that room has heard it a hundred times. Find another way in. Ask if they're having fun. Ask what brought them in tonight. Get them talking first.
-
Aim for at least 5 dances per lap before you move on. Don't just do one and bounce. Get comfortable, build something, and work up to more. Again, work smarter, not harder. If you can get five dances out of one guy, you might have just gained a regular. That's a lot less work than having to get five different guys to say yes to VIP five different times.
-
Read the room fast and move on faster. On a slow night you can warm someone up over 30 minutes. On a busy night your time is money. If someone isn't spending in a few minutes, move on. There are other $options$ in the room.
-
Try to have two or three regulars locked in for the beginning of the night. When the club opens, and things are starting to pick up but not yet crazy, having someone already there waiting for you is guaranteed money, and starts your night off right.
VIP is Where the Real Money I$
-
After midnight, push the VIP room. Guys spend the most at the end of the night. They don't want the night to end. They want to know your “real name”. They want to “ take you out of here” Play on their “ back to reality” emotions, and get paid upfront, always.
-
One guy….one connection…can make your whole week. Make sure you talk to everyone in the room and don't just assume they're not willing to spend because of how they look.
Taking Care of Yourself So You Actually Last
-
Take breaks. Five minutes in the dressing room to eat something and fix your look is not wasted time. If you're booked back to back, it's okay to take five. Tell him you'll be right back and go wipe down, reapply your perfume, drink some water, and come back refreshed. Coming back fresh is better than…not being fresh! And, you’re working hard! You deserve a break!
-
Watch your drinks. You can accept a drink without matching how much they're drinking. Being sharp at 1am is worth more than getting wasted and losing out on money trying to keep up with Mr. Larry Liquor.
-
Know when your night is done. There's a point where the good customers have left or are locked in and the room just shifts. If you've hit your number, go home with it. Grinding until close for not much more is how you wreck the next three shifts too.
After You Leave
-
Put money aside before you do anything else. Taxes, savings, a cushion for slow weeks. Take care of that first.
-
Take care of your stripper clothing when you get home. Wipe down your heels, hand wash your delicate pieces. Your gear is an investment and good dancewear is not cheap.
-
Think about what worked. Just a quick mental note. What worked? What didn’t? Did I talk to everyone in the room? That's how you get better at this over time.
